In keeping with the theme of “try something new” have you ever tried figs in a salad?
I personally like a bit of sweetness in my salad. Fruits, whether fresh or dried often find their way into my salads (although my family does not agree with me)!
Dried California Figs are high in fibre, calcium and potassium and are available year-round here in the GTA. Unlike many other dried fruits, California Figs have no sugar added, and have a delicious natural sweetness that pair well with savory goat cheese, peppery arugula and crunchy walnuts in this delicious salad!
I also made a tasty Dijon Vinaigrette dressing that pairs well with this salad.
All I can say is I cannot wait for fresh fig season to see what recipes I can whip up with these tasty fruits!
RECIPE: California Fig Arugula Salad
1/3 cup walnuts
6 cups trimmed arugula (about 6 ounces)
16 California Figs. Remove stems and sliced lengthwise.
¼ cup goat cheese
Goes well with: Creamy Dijon Vinaigrette Salad Dressing
- Toast walnuts on in the oven at 300 F until fragrant, about 4-5 minutes. Transfer to a plate and set aside to cool.
- Combine arugula, figs and walnuts in a salad bowl.
- Pour dressing (Creamy Dijon Vinaigrette) over salad.
- Sprinkle goat cheese on top of each.
